Design Competition 2024: we reveal the big winners!

For many years, we had intended to launch a design competition to let the creativity of today's talents and tomorrow's new talents speak for themselves. In the summer of 2023, we officially launched with our first “which sofa tomorrow?” competition. After receiving more than 120 projects, the jury met in mid-March to select the winners. A look back at this event and the next steps that await the grand prize winner!

Thinking about the sofa “of tomorrow”, or thinking about future issues

We sent the designers guidelines which seemed essential to us to take into account when designing the sofa of tomorrow. Their sofa therefore had to be:

• Feasible,
• Have a sleeping function,
• Design, comfortable and functional,
• Handled with ease,
• Able to accommodate at least two people,
• Still relevant in 10 years, if a technology is integrated.

More than 120 projects received

In the space of a few months, we have received, on our mailbox dedicated to the competition, more than 120 projects from design students, young designers or experienced designers. We received high quality projects, in terms of product creativity and the presentation of PDFs, and we wanted to highlight the investment of these designers , who indeed showed us a certain interest in competitions of this type .

Modularity, a great inspiration among today's designers

Among the projects received, a major trend emerged, that of the modular sofa . Many creations were based on the use of several blocks which come together, separate, transform into another function, etc. And this also allowed us to think about our future creations!

March 12: the jury meets to choose the winners

To select our winners, we convened an exceptional jury on March 12, in our Victor Hugo store, an opportunity for us to once again thank our merchandising team and the store team, who remodeled the store for the occasion.

To benefit from different points of view on each project, we have brought together a jury of experts, with complementary specialties. We found, among them:

• Benjamin Swieca: General Manager & Purchasing Director at La Maison Convertible
• Andrea Maglieri: Co-founder of our Italian factory VITARELAX
• Romain Brals: Furniture designer and partner of La Maison Convertible since 2017
• Karine Lalbaltry Villame: Essential decoration and lifestyle journalist for over 20 years
• Camille Callen: Content creator for 10 years under the name Noholita and great decoration lover

A morning to deliberate

Our jury was able to discover a selection of the 23 best projects out of the hundred received. Each of them brought their professional expertise and all thought about a rating based on different criteria:

• originality
• eco-responsibility
• design
• practicality
• the feasibility

The jury was very kind towards each project and constructive feedback was given to the candidates.

After a few hours looking at all the projects, the jury selected its 3 big winners, as well as a special mention.

We have set different prizes for the winners.

• First Prize : The winner of the competition will be awarded the sum of €2,500 and will have the pleasure of seeing their model made in collaboration with La Maison Convertible.

• The Second Prize : the second winner will receive the sum of €1,000.

• The Third Prize : the third winner will receive the sum of €800.

Next steps for the big winner

We have contacted the various winners and are happy to be able to support the big winner, the designer behind the Suisse sofa. The next steps for Pierre-Louis, the winner? We will accompany him to Italy so that he meets the teams from our factory and will launch the creation of the sofa with him.
