The top of a wall bed cabinet can become blocked for several reasons. The problem is most often resolved by checking the absence of objects preventing the opening or closing of the bedup, or by slightly forcing the system.
As part of a wall bed equipped with a manual mechanism
The manually opening bed cabinet is the most common model. To open the retractable bed, simply activate the system by pulling the handle fixed on the front of the cabinet. Generally, opening is assisted. A system of cylinders holds the descent of the bed, for safe installation of your bedup.
The system can get stuck in the open or closed position for different reasons.
If this is a first use, you must check that the cylinders are mounted in the correct direction. Also note that when the mattress is not yet installed on the box spring, you must exert fairly strong pressure on the box spring so that it descends correctly. The pressure of the cylinders is in fact calculated so that a heavy mattress does not force the system and accidentally opens it.
The Murphy bed may also become blocked due to an object falling behind the headboard . Check for this possibility, which could damage some parts of the Murphy bed.
Do not store heavy objects in the storage box placed under the box spring, and do not use your Murphy bed without the legs. The suspensions would stretch and block the system. Pressing on the plate while pulling on the ring should then release the locking system.
As part of a retractable bed equipped with an electric mechanism
Electric retractable bed models are equipped with motor-operated cylinders. The foldaway bed is then obtained without the slightest effort.
When an electric Murphy bed gets stuck in the open or closed position, it is usually a motor failure . But it could also be cylinder wear.
In both cases, the problem must be reported to after-sales service. Do not try to dismantle the cylinders of your electric retractable bed alone. The warranty generally covers the replacement of defective parts.
